Time for Nunez to become Liverpool’s new number 9?

Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica last summer and has settled in during his first season, netting nine goals in 29 games for the Reds.

He wore the number 9 shirt at Benfica but, with Roberto Firmino already established as Liverpool’s number 9, the Uruguayan forward picked 27 (numbers adding up to 9).

Now that Firmino has left the club, it is clearly the time to hand Nunez that famous number, as worn by some of the club’s greatest players over the years, from Ian Rush to Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres. Let’s not mention El Hadji Diouf, Rickie Lambert and Christian Benteke.

With Luis Diaz switching to number 7, now is undoubtedly the time to let Darwin take the number 9 and see if he can emulate the legends before him. If we leave it much longer the refunds on ‘Darwin 27’ shirts will eat int the transfer budget!
