Liverpool to miss out on Club World Cup

Liverpool will miss out on the chance to play in FIFA’s proposed new Club World Cup tournament in USA in 2025, with a prize fund of £150m.

Manchester City’s victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul ensures Pep’s side will take part, as Champions League winners from 2021-2024 will automatically qualify.

Chelsea, European champions in 2021, and 2022 winners Real Madrid have also qualified, while Man Utd, Arsenal or Newcastle could qualify by lifting the Champions League trophy next season.

However, Liverpool’s failure to secure Champions League football next season means they are guaranteed to miss out.

There has however been opposition to FIFA’s proposal, with UEFA seeing it as an attack on the Champions League.
