Former Red doesn’t rate Trent as a midfielder

Former Liverpool hardman and now TV pundit, Graeme Souness doesn’t think Trent Alexander-Arnold should play in midfield for Liverpool.

Trent’s move into midfield has given him back that spark and he has shown how well he can play in that role, with his heatmap being shared across social media. Souness isn’t one to avoid the devil’s advocate role and, on the subject of TAA, he is no different.

“I have seen the arguments about Trent Alexander-Arnold being deployed as a right-sided midfielder at Liverpool because of his perceived shortcomings in defence. I don’t agree with them,” said the Scotsman.

“I think Trent is better coming onto the ball from the full-back position, rather than being in the congested midfield areas.

“Full-back has always been the easiest place to play because when you receive the ball, you are looking forward at 20 players with no threat from behind.”

Steven Gerrard made the switch from right-back to midfield and look how that turned out.
