Colombians march for Diaz’s father

Residents of the Colombian town of Barrancas have taken to the streets and held a candle-lit march to demand the release of the father of Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.

The latest official update on the situation, from Colombian president Gustavo Petro on Sunday, confirmed that Luis Manuel Diaz was still being held captive, despite earlier reports that both parents were now free.

Air and land patrols by the country’s special forces have been searching a mountain range between Colombia and Venezuela and police have offered a $48,000 reward for information leading to his rescue.

According to the BBC, police said that they had identified a number of individuals “linked to the kidnapping” but did not say who they were. They have, however, said that he appears to have been seized by a criminal gang rather than a guerrilla group.
