Alexander-Arnold launches initiative to support former academy players

Trent Alexander-Arnold is launching the ‘The After Academy’ – an initiative set up in association with the PFA to provide career help and advice to former academy players who don’t make it to professional level.

The Liverpool player is funding the project personally for the next five years to help thousands of youngsters prepare for their future. More than three-quarters of academy players are dropped between the ages of 13 and 16, with only 0.012% making it to the Premier League.

“I’ve seen first-hand the struggles and difficulties players have when they’re released from football clubs and it’s gone on too long and now it’s time for change,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“For me, the After Academy is a dream and in that dream it’s quite simple really: I want any kid or any footballer who gets released from a football club to have somewhere to turn to.”
