Liverpool v Man City – Community Shield Preview

We all look forward to the Community Shield. It signals the end of a barren few weeks without competitive football and the start of the new season.

This year the FA Cup winners Liverpool will be taking on Premier League champions Manchester City.

With Wembley hosting the Women’s Euro 2022 final this weekend, the game has been switched to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, kick-off 5pm.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker will miss the game through injury.

New signings Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho are expected to make their competitive debuts, while we will also get the first glimpse of Erling Haaland in a Man City kit.

Pre-season has gone well for Liverpool, with four matches played and increasing in intensity throughout the month. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has chosen to focus less on matches and more on training, only playing two – against Bayern Munich and Club America.

It’s going to be a close match with both teams eager to signal their intent and start the season with silverware.
