Liverpool set to sign the next Xabi Alonso?

When the press label someone as ‘the next…’ then alarm bells usually ring. It’s a lazy way of describing a player in terms that fans can relate, but usually ends up well off the mark once the research is done.

So when FourFourTwo described Assan Ouedraogo as the next Xabi Alonso, we rolled or eyes. However, if you disregard the label and consider the transfer rumour, this looks like a great opportunity for Liverpool to sign an upcoming talent for a bargain before the price escalates.

Sky Germany claim that Ouedraogao can leave Schalke in January for under €12m. The 17-year-old midfielder has apparently already attracted the attention of Jurgen Klopp, according to the man in the know, Fabrizio Romano.

“There have been reports about Liverpool being keen on Schalke youngster Assan Ouedraogo, and yes it’s true that Liverpool like him,” said Romano.

“But it’s the same for Bayern Munich and AC Milan. They are all informed on his situation, on his release clauses. He has different ones based on the clubs interested. I think he has great potential, he’ll need some time to develop but he looks a very good player.”
