Trent on growing up playing against Everton

As we prepare for the Merseyside derby in a couple of weeks, we get a glimpse of the competitiveness that Trent Alexander-Arnold had growing up, playing for Liverpool under 9’s against Everton.

“Because it’s such a small city and everyone knows everyone, there were lads I was going to school with that were playing for Everton and there were lads I was going to school with that were playing for us aswell,” he told Jan Molby and Peter McDowall on the We Are Liverpool podcast.

“It was so competitive that I was up against people I was going to school with the next day, and I was like ‘there’s no way I can lose this.’ It’s something that’s so personal to me, my pride won’t let that happen and I’ll do anything it takes.

“That’s where it all stemmed from. That hatred to lose was just unbearable for me, that feeling of losing just dented my pride that much I’d do anything not to have that feeling.”

The Reds take on our friends from across the park at Anfield on Saturday 21st October, kick-off 12.30pm. Liverpool won this fixture 2-0 last season, with Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo getting on the scoresheet. Let’s hope its another easy three points this time around.
