Liverpool’s new signing Cody Gakpo has spoken about how he nearly joined another club before he signed for Liverpool.
“I spoke to Van Nistelrooy a lot about Manchester United in the summer when the transfer looked like it may be coming. But in the winter, not really”, he explained.
“It was Ruud’s wish that I went to a big club – and I think I have achieved that with Liverpool”
The Dutch forward was one of the highlights of the World Cup and was quickly snapped up for £37m by Jurgen Klopp as soon as the transfer window opened.
The 23-year-old has yet to settle into the Liverpool team, but has shown glimpses of his brilliance and is an exciting addition to the squad.
