Former Red describes his time at Anfield as ‘life-changing’

Charlie Adam may not have had the impact that Sir Kenny Dalglish had hoped for when he signed the Scottish midfielder from Blackpool for £6.75m in 2011, but he contributed to the turnaround in the club’s fortunes and looks back on his time at Liverpool fondly.

“It was emotional. My dad was a big part of my career, in terms of growing up to really getting there,” he said.

“I was okay, I was a bit nervous but I was okay, but ultimately when I see a grown man crying in the stands because of playing for Liverpool, playing for Kenny Dalglish who was dad’s hero, my mum was there as well, so that’s when it got to me and I was emotional then because I knew how much it meant to them.

“I was more nervous about being around the players and it took me a little while to get used to the quality of player that I was around and in terms of how they went around it, but when I was there I was fine playing and that when I was on the pitch.

“But, to see my dad and my mum so emotional in the stands, that was when it really hit that something’s life changing and it did change my life. It was an incredible year and very fortunate to play for Liverpool.”
