Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy was born on 18 March 1977 in Chester and started his footballing career at Crewe Alexandra.

He signed for Liverpool in 1997 for an initial fee of £1.5m and made his debut as a sub on the opening day of the 1997–98 season in a draw with Wimbledon. However, he did not break into the team immediately and, after making just one league appearance for the club during the following season, he returned to Crewe on loan, during which he helped save his old club from relegation. After the loan period ended, he went on to become a regular in the Liverpool first team squad.

During his time at Liverpool Murphy’s versatility and determined midfield play earned him respect among fans and pundits. He helped the club to an FA Cup and UEFA Cup double in 2001, a Premier League second-place finish in 2002 and the League Cup in 2003.

Murphy left Liverpool in 2004, moving on to Charlton Athletic then Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham before ending his playing career at Blackburn Rovers.

After retiring from the game in 2013, Murphy became a football pundit, offering insightful analysis on television and radio.
