Liverpool have confirmed the £85m signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica, but how excited should fans be getting?
The 22-year-old Uruguay striker scored in each leg as Benfica slipped to a 6-4 aggregate defeat to Liverpool in last season’s Champions League, taking his tally to six in 10 games in the competition.
With Sadio Mane moving on to pastures new, Nunez will not only be an ideal replacement but also boost the goal tally – something that has been an issue in several key games last season.
Don’t just take it from us. This is what Liverpool’s previous Uruguayan forward says about Nunez…
“I have 15 years of international experience, so I know a thing or two about forwards,” said Luis Suarez. “And I told them, ‘pay attention to this one, he’s very good, he has very interesting things’.”
Time will tell whether Nunez has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League, but there is no doubt that Liverpool have a mouthwatering forward line next season and will already be giving opposition defenders nightmares.
