Salah wants to see commitment from Liverpool, not just financially

Mohamed Salah has set tongues wagging with comments made in his latest interview by GQ magazine.

The Liverpool forward is yet to agree a new contract but, despite what many of us have been led to believe over the last few months, the stumbling block doesn’t appear to be just a financial one.

“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands,” he said. “They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff.

“The thing is, when you ask for something, and they show you they can give you something because they appreciate what you did for the club.

“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have been told the situation. It’s in their hands.”

Salah is ambitious and wants to be playing his best football at a club that is competing at the highest level and winning silverware along the way. Liverpool have done that two years ago but there appears to be a lack of intent to maintain that level in the last couple of seasons, with a squad that often struggles through injury crises.

With his current contact up in 2023 and a rumoured £300k per-week deal being negotiated, it is clear more has to be done to get it over the line.

What Mo says suggests he wants the club to be as ambitious as he is if they want him to stay. As fans we can only sit back, cross our fingers and hope that happens.
