One of the main reasons for Liverpool’s strength this season, not only in the Premier League but also Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup, is the solidity of the defence.
Joel Matip has remained injury-free and has proved pivotal to the consistency of the defence, despite the arrival of Ibrahima Konate last summer.
When asked by Sky Sports what the secret is, the Cameroon international was quick to explain…
“It is the whole team, starting with the offence, how they put pressure on the players, it is just the whole team and how we defend.
“We are improving, and that is not too bad, and we are uncomfortable for a lot of teams.
“It’s great for me personally to be fit and be able to play and I’m looking forward to staying fit and help the team and maybe be there to challenge.”
Matip is expected to get the nod ahead of Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk on Sunday, as Liverpool take on Everton at Anfield.
