Liverpool withdraw from European Super League plans

Liverpool have followed Chelsea and Manchester City by backing out of plans to form a European Super League.

In a statement the club said:

“Liverpool Football Club can confirm that our involvement in proposed plans to form a European Super League has been discontinued.

In recent days, the club has received representations from various key stakeholders, both internally and externally, and we would like to thank them for their valuable contributions.”

The news will come as a relief to fans who reacted strongly to the proposals, claiming it goes against everything the late, great Bill Shankly stood for.

Football should be for the people, not the suits.

More to follow.
