The Nike design harks back to the 70’s when Bill Shankly turned the club into what it is today, claiming three league titles, lifting the UEFA Cup and finally winning the FA Cup in 1974.

Shankly then surprised us all by resigning. Bob Paisley took over and the legacy continued, with even more domestic and European success to follow over the decades.

It’s not the first time Liverpool have been inspired by that early kit. In the 90’s Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard and co. sported a similar design by the club’s then shirt sponsor, Reebok. That proved a hit with fans and is still highly-collectible to this day.

On the reverse of the shirt, the 97 emblem encased by the eternal flames are once again on the nape of the neck in memory of those who were unlawfully killed as a result of the Hillsborough disaster.
