Liverpool face setback in pursuit of new defender

Liverpool’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie has suffered a blow.

Hincapie has been linked with a possible move to Anfield a couple of times in the last few months, so this story hasn’t come out of the blue.

Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso is determined to hold onto the 21-year-old Ecuadorian defender as they seek to maintain their bid for the Bundesliga title. They are currently top, four points clear of Bayern Munich.

The Reds are also being linked with Fulham’s Antonee Robinson at the moment, so keep a close eye on developments as the January transfer window prepares to open.
